VARS — The Ontario government is welcoming an investment of $6,152,333 by Gentec Equipment Inc., a manufacturer of excavating attachment products, to expand manufacturing capabilities, reshore production to Ontario, while creating eight new good-paying jobs and retaining 14 more in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.

The investment was announced by Stéphane Sarrazin, Member of Provincial Parliament for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.

“By supporting strategic investments from regional businesses, our government is protecting Ontario’s workers and creating the conditions for a strong, stable, and resilient economy that can weather any storm,” said MPP Sarrazin. “Gentec Equipment Inc.’s investment will support growth and innovation across the local manufacturing sector and create more good-paying jobs for workers and families in Russell Township.”

With this investment, Gentec Equipment will purchase a Computer Numeric Control (CNC) laser cutter and a press brake and expand its subsidiary USGL Inc.’s recently acquired facility from 12,000 to 22,000 square feet to accommodate the new equipment. These upgrades will boost production efficiency, lower operating costs and reduce lead times. The expansion will also increase manufacturing capabilities to support new product offerings, diversify the company’s client base and reshore majority of production currently outsourced to China, strengthening Ontario’s domestic supply chains and supporting local economic growth.

“We’re honoured to receive support through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund,” said Phil Clermont, President of Gentec Equipment. “This investment accelerates our factory expansion, machinery acquisitions, and will allow us to grow our team much sooner than we could have otherwise hoped. We thank the Government of Ontario for its confidence in Gentec’s future.”

In support of this investment, the government is providing Gentec Equipment Inc with $500,000 in funding through the Regional Development Program’s Eastern Ontario Development Fund.

“Employing more than 800,000 workers across the province, Ontario’s manufacturing sector is the economic engine of our nation,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Our government is proud to support local companies like Gentec Equipment as they expand their operations, and we thank them for their contributions to Ontario’s dynamic and growing manufacturing ecosystem.”

Ontario is investing over $230 million through its Regional Development Program to help manufacturers across the province grow while supporting distinct regional priorities. To date, Ontario has supported more than 180 projects through the program, leveraging more than $2.6 billion in new investments and helping to create over 5,500 jobs.

QUICK FACTS
