The Festival de la Curd reconnects with it’a audience thanks to $123,100 from Ontario government
St. Albert – This Friday, local MPP Stéphane Sarrazin was present at the opening night of the Curd Festival in St. Albert and was able to see the impact of a $123,100 grant from the Ontario Government’s Resilient Communities Fund through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
“As MPP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, I am thrilled to see the Curd Festival reborn with the $123,100 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation,” said Stéphane Sarrazin, MPP for Glengarry—Prescott—Russell. “This support allows the festival to deliver outstanding artistic programming and bring together the St. Albert community and visitors from across the Glengarry-Prescott-Russell region. This is a great example of how we can celebrate and strengthen our local culture while supporting events that unite people and enrich our community life.”
After two years of interruption in 2020 and 2021, during which it was impossible to organize public events due to the pandemic, the funding from the FTO allowed the festival not only to regain its loyal audience, but also to relaunch a varied artistic program, meeting the expectations of festival-goers.
“The support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation has truly been a catalyst for us to relaunch the Curd Festival after two challenging years,” said José Bertrand, Festival Executive Director. “This funding has given us the resources we need to strengthen our team and deliver quality artistic programming that brings the community together again. Without this support, it would have been impossible to regain the momentum and excitement we see today among festival-goers.”
For nearly 30 years, the Curd Festival has been bringing the Nation Municipality community to life, bringing together people from across Eastern Ontario, the greater Ottawa area and even across the Ottawa River. Comedians, magicians, musicians and artisans gather every year in the beautiful village of Saint-Albert, where the famous Fromagerie has been located for over 125 years, to introduce festival-goers to all the riches of the Prescott-Russell region.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario dedicated to building healthy, vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested more than $110 million in 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to improve economic well-being, encourage more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to gather and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
