The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet receives $13.78 million for the modernization and expansion of the Plantagenet lagoon

PLANTAGENET, ON — The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet is the recipient of a significant $13.78 million financial contribution from the Province of Ontario for the modernization and expansion of the Plantagenet wastewater treatment lagoon. This funding is part of the Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF) under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program et contribuera à la création de 600 nouvelles unités résidentielles dans la communauté.
I want to thank the Ministry of Infrastructure for their support of this important project,” said MPP Stéphane Sarrazin, Glengarry–Prescott–Russell. “Upgrading the Plantagenet Wastewater Treatment System, including the expansion of the lagoon, will ensure safe and reliable services for our residents and support the sustainable growth of our region. This investment will have a significant impact for generations to come.
The Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program is designed to help municipalities develop, repair, rehabilitate, and expand their drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure.
“The modernization and expansion of the Plantagenet lagoon is a key priority identified by the municipal council in its 2023-2026 strategic plan. This project is essential to the economic vitality of the village of Plantagenet and the region,” said Mayor Yves Laviolette. “I would like to thank the Minister of Infrastructure, the Honorable Kinga Surma, and M.P.P. Stéphane Sarrazin for this significant investment, which will contribute to the growth and sustainability of our community.”
The MHIP is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario and includes historic investments in housing- and community-enabling infrastructure that will help municipalities deliver the core infrastructure needed, such as roads and water systems, to lay the foundation for new homes in communities across the province.
