Township of Alfred and Plantagenet inaugurates new outdoor event stage in Lefaivre made possible by a $145,700 grant from the OTF
Lefaivre, ON – On Thursday, MPP Stéphane Sarrazin from the Glengarry—Prescott—Russell riding and Manon Besner, Director of Parks and Recreation for the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet, gathered for the official inauguration of the new permanent outdoor event stage at Lefaivre’s riverside park. The project was made possible by a $145,700 capital grant from the Government of Ontario and a $30,000 donation from the Lefaivre Lions Club.
“Today is a significant day for the residents of Alfred-Plantagenet and the surrounding area with the opening of this new outdoor stage at Lefaivre’s riverside park,” said Stéphane Sarrazin, MPP for Glengarry—Prescott—Russell. “This project was made possible thanks to the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Lefaivre Lions Club. Designed to withstand the elements, this stage will provide a space for numerous cultural and community activities in our region. I sincerely thank everyone who contributed to making this project a reality.”
Originally envisioned in 2022 during the municipal park partnership planning process, the project aimed to support the development of an active, inclusive, and engaged community through the creation of a cultural programming space. The $145,700 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation played a crucial role in constructing a new weather-resistant event stage and purchasing outdoor chairs. The stage will serve as a gathering place, shelter, venue for other cultural and community activities, performance stage, and potentially a festival site, accommodating citizens of the Township and surrounding areas.
“This solid wood structure represents a place for the community and the Parks and Recreation Service to relax by the Ottawa River and enjoy the performers in their splendor. This stage transforms our riverside park, offering visitors a great outdoor experience with a stunning view,” said Manon Besner, Director of Parks and Recreation, before thanking everyone who participated in the project.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is a government agency dedicated to building healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested over $110 million in 1,044 community projects and cross-sector partnerships. The projects aim to enhance economic well-being, promote more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide gathering spaces, and create a more sustainable environment.
